It is said that some fly fisherman can "can catch fish in a drainage ditch"! Never have, but did catch two very nice Rainbows in an "irrigation ditch"! Went to the Root last night for my evening therapy and fished at what they call a diversion dam which basically re-directs water to irrigation ditches. So on my way out, I said, "always have wondered if irrigation ditches would hold trout"....so I flipped a big Chernobyl Ant in the ditch and low and behold the guy in the pic casually came up and inhaled the ant! Are you kidding me! Then said, what the heck", threw again and caught his brother. As usual, pics taken by yourself do not do justice to the size, color and quality of the fish....but, using my "Soho" measuring system as opposed to the MRMS, I estimate they both were in the 18 inch range....Life is Good! Regards to all, Mike
Beaverhead at the corral
Looking Upstream on the Beaver. This stretch fished very well while wading. Called the Corral
Beaverhead at the corral
Looking downstream from the corral. Bob is working a seam against the opposite bank. There was a strong current near the bank, but wading out got you into smoother water so you could fish the seams.
Nascar bringing one in on the Clark's Fork just below where the Big Hole enters. Rowing is club member Danny who now lives in Missoula
Decorations in a steak house in Missoula
We went to a steak house outside of Missoula. Scenery was great but the steaks were all either over cooked or under cooked. Not a great experience.
Entire town came out for ice cream
Downtown Missoula had this ice cream shop that you would think they were giving it away
A local favorite for Mexican food. Great restaurant in down town Dillon worth stopping at
If you look carefully, you see Rob being stealth against the rocks. Rob knew how to get fish in clear water!
JD, Ed, Eric, Rob
the guys ready to break up camp at the KOA. This is an outstanding place with an even more outstanding restaurant!
Uncle Miltie did not join us for the Montana trip having gone fishing with Dave Peacock earlier. He later joined JD in Colorado. Pretty sad picture waiting for his friends to show up at the club meeting!
The star of our stay at Rock Creek
The restaurant at Rock Creek has a fantastic chef serving 5 star meals. Our waitress was one of the most pleasant individuals you would ever want to meet. (and is a damn good fly fisherman!)

Steve Claxton returning from Hawaii or Hazel Creek?
All, For those of you who were not on our recent trip to Hazel Creek, attached is a pic of our beloved friend and guide, Steve Claxton, modeling the new fishing ensemble he recommends. It is guaranteed to keep the bears away from you! And more than likely the fish too! Perhaps, Steve has been spending entirely too many days in the woods. Regards, Mike
Chasing trout can be hard work, need to rest every now and then....Boomer... I am looking for a FF vest for Boomer. I showed him the attached pic and He said…woof, woof, woof and woof…meaning “I want a vest”!! I see Boomers a purist, nothing but dries and streamers. My dog speak is a little rusty, but I translated that "woof, woof, woof, and woof" to mean " those damn things had better not poke me if you know what's good for you!" hey must be barbless, or it would be heck getting them out. Maybe we're viewing it the wrong way... Maybe he uses the highly trained dog for fly casting target practice. "Go...Go...Stay...(cast on target)...Right...Go...Stay...(cast again)...."
To AFFC, Not a great picture - but here's one of the nice rainbows I caught at Fern Valley on the Soque. #16 Black gnat Ryan Parker
Deep Creek, Milton
Milton and I fished Straight Fork, Deep Creek and the Oconaluftee River and attended the Southeastern Fly Fishing Show the third weekend in May. Then I went on the Hazel Creek trip the first weekend in June. Good fishing and good friends. What more can you ask for? Bob

White Laurel JD Forrester
First of all I want to thank Mike "MGD" Greene for the great write up. He was completely true in what he said except for the fly shop. I must warn you that if MGD or Ed Chamberlain go searching for a fly shop, it would be best for you to go another way! We had a fantastic time together and White Top Laurel did nothing to change my mind as the best wild trout stream in the Southeast. In fact, I think we were 2 to 3 weeks too early or it would have been mostly a dry fly time. Still it was a great time on the stream. For example, you see a large rock in the middle of the stream and it looks like good holding water is on the right. If I can just put the fly above the rock and get a 12 inch drift beside the rock, then maybe something would give the fly a look. Luckly for me I got a good drift and bam, got a 14 inch brown. It doesn't get any better than that!
