Destination: Calgary, Canada, Aug. 10 - 14, 2005

With an origin in the Canadian Rockies, the Bow River winds its way through the scenic Alberta foothills to the city of Calgary. Beginning within the city limits and running for 40 miles southeast of town the Bow River is widely regarded as one of the premier trout streams in North America. The Bow has become famous for the size and strength of its rainbows and browns. With a self-sustaining population of 2500 trout per mile, it is a rare guided trip when an angler does not hook a 20 plus inch fish! The Bow River caddis hatch, coupled with the mid-summer Pale Morning Dun and late-season Blue Winged Olive hatches makes the river unsurpassed for big fish on dry flies. Throwing hoppers during the late summer produces heart-stopping takes that are legendary among regulars. The nymph fishing is great, and pounding the banks with large streamers brings big browns out from undercut banks; something you have to experience to believe. The club will fish on the Blackfoot Indian Reserve (Lower Bow River) on Saturday. There is no public access to this water and our host is one of the few outfitters with a permit.

The club is booked with Bow River Troutfitters, which offers a full service fly shop, in addition to a staff of seasoned guides who share the common goal of providing you with a fly-fishing experience that you won't soon forget. A detailed list of what to bring along with other suggestions will be provided to each person who signs up for the trip.

Accommodations this year will be at The North Bow Lodge located in Dalemead, Alberta on the banks of the river. Walk 50 feet out the front door and you will be standing in the Bow River. For those who arrive early, stay late, or want to make a few casts before the guides arrive, walk ½ mile up stream to some of the best dry fly fishing in Alberta.

Logistics:

Leave Atlanta on Wednesday 8/10/05 and arrive Calgary in time for a rendezvous at the outfitters by 5:00PM mountain time. Purchase a fishing license, pick up equipment you need, and then the outfitter will provide a shuttle to the lodge for people who make the rendezvous. Participants who miss the rendezvous are responsible for transportation to the lodge.
