Destination: Great Smoky
Mountains National Park; Hazel Creek
June 11, 12 & 13th, 2004 (Friday, Saturday & Sunday)
Mike
Williams is organizing
a club trip to Hazel Creek, Great Smoky Mtns. National Park. The
trip will be made up of a maximum of six (6) members.
What: Camping and fly-fishing
on Hazel Creek, NC. This is not a typical fly-fishing adventure
in that we will have only one guide for a maximum of 6 people. The
fly fisherman who signs up for this trip should be experienced in
fly-fishing mountain streams. The waters of Hazel can be difficult
to wade and proficiencies in roll casting and drag free drifts are
required to be successful.
Our guide will merely place us on
different sections and then check with us throughout the day. He
will certainly help us with fly selection and give individual help
as is necessary. His main role will be to transport us across Fontana
Lake on his pontoon boat, set up camp and cook for us.
When: June 11, 12 & 13th,
2004. Arrive in Bryson City, NC Friday morning and fish Friday afternoon,
all day Saturday, and until mid-afternoon on Sunday.
Guides: Steve Claxton
Cost: $350 for 4
people (each)
$275
for 6 people (each)
What's Included: (1) Transportation
to and from the campsite on Hazel Creek.
(2)
Camping equipment. Bring your own sleeping bag.
(3)
Meals & lunches starting with Friday evening; breakfast, lunch,
and dinner on Saturday; and, breakfast and lunch on Sunday.
Location: SE side, Great
Smoky Mountains National Park
Transportation: On your own,
or Car Pool.
Weather: In June, water temps
are in the 60s and I usually wet wade. Will bring waders, as well.
Equipment: Shorter rods
generally work better on Hazel. I use an 8' 4", 3 wt as well
as a 7'6", 4 wt. Floating lines and 9', 6x are the order of
the day. Rain is always a possibility in The Smokies; do not forget
your rain gear.
Fishing License: A NC fishing
license is required. You do not need a trout stamp because we will
be fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains NP.
